A bulging disc is a potentially painful condition that can occur with the natural aging process of the spine. Over the years, the spinal discs begin to lose elasticity and become less able to withstand the pressure being placed on them daily, which can eventually develop into a disc bulging out of its normal perimeter in the spinal column.
This is not always a painful condition and it is possible to have a bulging disc without knowing it. However, sometimes a disc can bulge into the spinal canal and compress a nerve root, resulting in symptoms of localized pain, radiating pain in the local extremity, and sometimes even weakness or tingling in the local extremity.
