If you fly

Flying after back surgery can be quick and convenient and doesn’t require packing your patience. To ease your concerns, we’ve put together a list of travel tips to help get you ready for takeoff. Keep this list handy as you depart from a life of chronic pain and soar into the active lifestyle you once left behind.

  • Get up, move around and stretch. Sitting in the same position on a long flight can cause sore muscles and stiffness. Try getting up midflight and walking the aisles.
  • Stay hydrated. Flying can cause dehydration so remember to drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty.
  • Dress in loose-fitting clothing.
  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • If you need to, contact your airline to request a wheelchair to help you navigate the airport with your Care Partner.
