For patients that have been diagnosed with a bulging disc, the idea of spinal fusion may seem like both a necessity and something to be avoided. Spinal fusions, while providing some benefits for treatment, are often associated with several risks that can make patients hesitant to undergo the procedure. If you have been suffering from a bulging disc and you have not found any effective pain relief from weeks or months of conservative treatments, you may require surgery to help relieve your symptoms.
While the idea of spinal fusion may be too overwhelming to consider, you should research some of the minimally invasive surgical alternatives available to you, such as the outpatient procedures performed at USA Spine Care. Our procedures offer minimally invasive surgery for a bulging disc that does not necessarily require fusion. Contact us to learn about how we can help you on the road to recovery.
While some severe cases of a bulging disc may have no other choice besides spinal fusion, many bulging discs can be effectively treated through a simple discectomy, which removes a small portion of the bulging disc that is out of alignment. This releases pressure on the trapped nerve root and still maintains the stability of the spine.
A minimally invasive discectomy is one of our most common procedures at USA Spine Care because many adults suffer from a damaged disc due to the natural aging process of the spine. During this procedure, our board-certified surgeons+ will make a small incision in the back and carefully move away from the muscles surrounding the spine without cutting or tearing them. This is a procedure not practiced during a traditional discectomy, which cuts and tears the surrounding muscles.
At USA Spine Care, our procedures offer a safer and effective alternative to traditional discectomy or any other spinal fusion.^ Once the surgeon can reach the spine, a small portion of the bulging disc that has protruded into the spinal canal will be removed. This will allow the pinched nerve to be released, which should decrease the pain and symptoms caused by the bulging disc. Because only a small portion of the disc is removed, stabilization surgery is often not necessary.
USA Spine Care has a patient satisfaction score of 98 and patient recommendation score of 98 out of 100,^ positioning USA Spine Care as the leader in minimally invasive spine surgery.
