Facet disease surgery may be an option for patients who have developed nerve compression symptoms that are not responding to conservative facet disease treatments like physical therapy, medication, rest or massage. If your chronic pain is limiting your ability to walk, work, play sports or perform daily activities, it may be time for facet disease surgery.
Minimally invasive facet disease surgery
Facet thermal ablation is one type of facet disease surgery available to treat degenerative facet joints, facet arthritis, facet disease, facet joint syndrome and facet hypertrophy. To learn more about these conditions, their causes and treatment options, visit our facet disease overview page.
During the minimally invasive facet thermal ablation procedure offered by USA Spine Care, a surgeon makes a small incision near the affected facet joint in the neck or back and inserts a tube through which small surgical tools and a laser are funneled. These tools clean the facet joint and then deaden painful nerves there, similar to a root canal. This is usually performed in conjunction with a decompression procedure on an outpatient basis, which means patients are able to leave our surgery centers the same day.^ A postoperative visit is scheduled with the patient for the following day. For other treatment alternatives, review our facet disease treatments page.
USA Spine Care’s facet thermal ablation:
- Is minimally invasive
- Performed on an outpatient basis
- Offers no lengthy recovery^
- Requires a less than 1-inch incision
