Foraminal stenosis describes the narrowing of the foramen, which are the tunnels where the nerves exit the spine. This condition often develops as a result of herniated discs, bulging discs, bone spurs, facet cysts and thickening of the ligaments. When the nerves become pinched as they exit the tunnel, this can increase the severity of your condition, resulting in back pain, numbness, tingling and weakness. If you begin to experience these symptoms, it is important to attempt the treatment methods described below to prevent your condition from becoming more serious.
If your condition is mild to moderate, nonsurgical treatments can be helpful to avoid exacerbating your condition. This may include:
However, in the event that your condition is severe and does not respond to several weeks or months of treatment, then surgery may be required for you. To help you find lasting relief from this condition, contact USA Spine Care. Our minimally invasive spine surgery has helped thousands of patients find relief from chronic neck or back pain each year and we look forward to helping you on the road to recovery.
At USA Spine Care, our minimally invasive spine surgery is a safer and effective alternative to traditional open spine surgery and offers a shorter recovery period as well as a lower risk of complication.^ To treat foraminal stenosis, our board-certified+ surgeons can remove part of the damaged disc that is causing the foraminal canal to narrow through the use of a less than 1-inch incision that is muscle sparing.
If your condition is more serious and requires stabilization, a small incision is used to remove all of the damaged disc and fuse the vertebra in order to stabilize the spine. To find out if you are a potential candidate for one of our foraminal stenosis procedures, reach out to our dedicated team today and ask for a free MRI review.* We can recapture your quality of life from this debilitating condition.
